Michelle developed her passion for education as a junior/senior high teacher and then joined the University of Alberta over fifteen years ago. Since then, she has worked to enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty members, students, and community members, through curriculum development, course creation, workshops, and online learning opportunities. With a passion for health care, wellness, and leadership in education, she draws on her knowledge and experience in curriculum planning and development to work with the Surgery 101 team and guests to create outstanding learning materials. She loves being active and motivating our hard-working team to make sure they incorporate active breaks!
Surgery 101 has always been powered by a passionate and collaborative team dedicated to making high-quality surgical education accessible to learners around the world. Since its inception, dozens of faculty members, surgeons, educators, staff, as well as hundreds of students, and creative professionals have contributed their unique talents to the project, helping it grow into one of the world’s leading free surgical education resources.
Our team brings together expertise from a wide range of disciplines, including surgery, medical education, instructional design, curriculum development, multimedia production, communications, educational technology, and research. This diversity of perspectives has allowed Surgery 101 to continually innovate, creating engaging podcasts, videos, interactive learning resources, and educational materials that support learners at every stage of their medical journey.
Surgery 101 is produced with the help of a number of generous sponsors and supporters. These include The Tom Williams Chair in Surgical Education, the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta, Covidien, Alberta Health Services and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. We would also like to acknowledge the assistance of a large number of friends who have helped us on the Surgery 101 journey.
